Week 3 Assignment essay

The patient dissatisfaction has a considerable impact on the outcome of their treatment and the quality of health care services patients receive. In this regard, the poor communication between health care professionals and patients is one of the major causes of patients’ dissatisfaction. Anyway, the patient dissatisfaction is, to a significant extent, the result of the poor performance of health care professionals and nursing staff, in particular.

Even though patients may seem to have the high level of satisfaction, still there are issues that may or do raise the patient dissatisfaction. In this regard, the true cause of such dissatisfaction is the poor communication between patients and health care professionals. For instance, patients communicate most of their time with nurses, but nurses may fail to provide patients with information they need to know (Chikotas, 363). Instead, patients may need to communicate directly to their physicians but the latter do not always have time to communicate with each patient any time patients like to.

In addition, nurses may fail to provide counseling services, which patients often need badly. Many nurses stand on the ground that their functions are bound to nursing care solely, while counseling services are not a part of their duty. However, counseling services, being provided by nurses for patients, could have helped to increase the patient satisfaction and to improve the quality of health care services.

Thus, the poor communication and the lack of counseling services may be the major causes of the patient dissatisfaction. Therefore, nursing staff and other health care professionals should tackle these problems to improve the patient satisfaction and to increase the quality of health care services.
