The Father of Our Country essay
My son, George Washington, is without doubt one of the most important symbols of the American nation and a national hero in America. George was the first and most revered U.S. president, “the father of our nation”. The name of Washington has always been associated with the capital of the United States, built in his honor and the power of the American empire.
Nevertheless, in real life, behind the characters and the idol, my son was quite simple ordinary man, having his own characteristics and preferences. I’ll tell you what this real person, who is shown on every “green” dollar, who is the symbol of the American empire power was.
Our farmer family was fairly simple; we have been living for several generations on the East Coast. We lost the father of our family when George was 11, but afterwards he always said that, even though he grew up without father and got a mediocre education, he was able to achieve great success in his life.
His character included an excessive desire for social recognition, which was associated with chronic internal self-doubt. Only later, he was able to learn a confident demeanor, hiding the internal weakness that played a fundamental role when he led the American army and was president. My son got married not about “big love”, but he simply found a woman who didn’t care about love – she was a widow with two children. But this woman was well suited to continuously feed the personal vanity of Washington, helping to make him “a symbol of the American nation”.
George got the reputation of a “great military leader” in the French-Indian War 1754-55. This war had nothing to do with the U.S. troops and, in general, ended in failure, but as a result of participation in hostilities, Washington started think himself as a “great” that helped to convince everyone around him. The fact that while serving in the British army, he was used only “at the border” also developed his patient’s self-esteem. It’s made him an enemy of the British forever.
The main quality of my son, which allowed to make a flag from him, a symbol of the American nation, was his complete non-interference in political life and legislative process. His character was quite satisfied to be the main character, not the “engine”, but an American flag on the ship. People around him, who remained in the shadows, were also satisfied with this quality; they pursued the policy that was the most beneficial fro them. These were Adams and Hamilton, and even Jefferson, who became the successor of Washington.
George used the tactic of waiting and delaying, he was always afraid of responsibility for decision making and shifted this responsibility to civil society organizations, the Congress… But being a “symbolic president”, my son carried out his role in the defeat of the British troops and the creation of a new American state.
In retirement, having made this a solemn occasion, and having prepared a beautiful speech, George was engaged in the production of whiskey and was the largest producer of whiskey in America. But since everyone’s attention and honor of himself were absolutely fundamental and vital to my boy, he actually died of boredom or inactivity. His death was from scratch, from a simple cold. George went to go around his domain, was exposed to rain and snow, caught a cold and died two days later. It happened in December when he was only 67.
This is just to say my son George, was the dominant military and political leader of the new United States of America from 1775 to 1797 , leading the American victory over Britain in the American Revolutionary War as commander in chief of the Continental Army, 1775–1783, and presiding over the writing of the Constitution in 1787. As the unanimous choice to serve as the first president of the United States (1789–1797), he developed the forms and rituals of government that have been used ever since, such as using a cabinet system and delivering an inaugural address. The president built a strong, well-financed national government that avoided war, suppressed rebellion and won acceptance among Americans of all types. Acclaimed ever since as the “Father of his country”, Washington, along with Abraham Lincoln, has become a central icon of republican values, self sacrifice in the name of the nation, American nationalism and the ideal union of civic and military leadership.
I am very proud of my hero-son because he made a great contribution in development of our nation. Henry Lee, George’s friend, eulogized him as “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen”.
