The Differences in Occupation and Earnings: The Role of Labor Market Discrimination Essay
Men are more likely to be in managerial and administrative occupations or to be craftsmen. So, men are more likely to have the top positions in these spheres. Besides, we can see less women discrimination in the public sector but in the private sector discrimination against women is a major factor explaining the differences in their earnings. However, the times are changing and the difference in earning of men and women is becoming less and in some countries women are earning more than men. Meanwhile, there is still sex discrimination as men don’t want women to get the top positions.
The pros and cons of nonstandard employment for workers
We all know that such nonstandard employment for workers has both advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages are the following: within a family the member who earns more can work while the other may raise children. In addition, women are now having the possibility to be in the spheres in which they couldn’t be before. Part time jobs for the person who sits with the child can be the solution if a family has a lack of money.
The disadvantages are the following: the standard employment is changing. Some people are against that and some people consider concrete specializations to be only male or female. For some men the fact that women have the top positions can be unpleasant.
