In actuality, the adequate and accurate assessment can influence the further development of the organization. At the same time, there is no ideal approach to the assessment and evaluation of the organizational performance and effectiveness of internal business processes. Nevertheless, some organizations use successfully the balanced score cards approach, which has already proved its efficiency in terms of the qualitative assessment of the effectiveness of internal business processes and organizational performance at large. In this respect, it is possible to refer to the example of Duke Children’s Hospital, which has already implemented the balanced score cards approach to evaluate its internal business processes and organizational performance.
In actuality, the Duke Children’s Hospital needs to optimize its internal business processes and to improve its organizational performance to provide health care services for a larger number of children and to enroll possibly all children, who need the professional health care aid. At the same time, when the Duke Children’s Hospital came to the point, when the need of changes became obvious, the hospital faced the problem of the adequate assessment of its needs and development of strategic goals. To put it more precisely, it was unclear what the essence of problems that undermined the effectiveness of internal business processes in the Duke Children’s Hospital was and, therefore, the hospital could not find plausible way out that could bring positive outcomes and to maximize the effectiveness of internal business processes. Thus, taking into account all above mentioned, it is important to place emphasis on the fact that the balanced score cards approach applied by the Duke Children’s Hospital has proved to be efficient and revealed the fact that this approach is worth implementing in organizations with complex structure and multiple needs. In this regard, the balanced score cards approach may be particularly useful when qualitative changes are needed as was the case of the Duke Children’s Hospital.
