Supply Chain Management Essay
Jacques Mbede Owona RE: What were the goals of the supply chain management system project at MMI?
I completely agree with the fact that the idea to improve MMI’s competitive position and profitability through exemplary customer service was a good one. Due to improved customer service, it is possible to improve the efficiency of the project. In this case, enhanced performance on the part of project implementation could result in increased customer satisfaction. The fact that Woodson proposed to undertake certain improvements in supply chain management performance means that the organization needed modification of its business processes at the corporate level, with the use of the proper information systems to ensure the functioning of the new SCM processes. Actually, the organization has always been focused on manufacturing high-quality products. The key strategic objectives set by the management can be achieved through the implementation of the new Supply Chain Management System. According to experts, “the development of information systems contributes to high-quality products to meet customer demands” (Mentzer 295).
David Sauceda RE: What factors contributed to the problems MMI experienced with its project?
I cannot but agree with the fact that in the case of MMI’s management planning, Leach’s approaches to deal with the challenges like downsizing and Y2K could be effective. It is true that Woodson’ leaving was out of his control. The various factors that contributed to the multiple problems faced by MMI with its SCM project required joint efforts. There was a need to include the production scheduling module in the system to complete the project promptly. It is crucial to admit that the new SCM project could have been completed in a rather short period of time if the MMI’s management had been more knowledgeable and better organized. The project’s key goal was to help the organization gain its competitive advantage in the industry. According to experts, “customer service activities are one component of a set of supply chain activities that are aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness to deliver value to downstream customers” (Mentzer 365). Hence, MMI’s management should have developed the proper strategies to enhance customer service activities through the processes of supply chain management.
