Smoking Essay
Most of us know that smoking is hazardous to our health. Yet, many people continue smoking. But if any of us would ask himself – is this so called “pleasure” of smoking worth your life? Certainly, no. In this paper we will reveal the most dangerous threats under which smoking puts our health.
First of all, lungs and heart suffer most from smoking. It’s due to smoking that the rate of heart diseases and attacks has risen dramatically in recent years. Such lung diseases as chronic bronchitis and emphysema and increase in blood pressure and heart attack rate are direct aftermaths of bad habit of smoking.
Furthermore, smoking decreases density of bones and negatively affects reproductive systems. There are some tars and chemicals in cigarette smoke are carcinogens, substances that trigger the growth of cancer cells in human body.
Next, nicotine adversely affects the immune system of the smoker, leaving it weak and hampered in the face of minor infection and injuries. Skin becomes dry and rough, as a result of decreased blood circulation and loss of oxygen and it wrinkles quicker than usual for your age.
Smoking has also a bad effect on teeth and gums; in time teeth grow yellow and gums are inflamed and damaged. All this is in itself an awful thing, but combined with constant bad breath it can also hamper personal face-to-face communication with people you admire.
Still want to start or continue smoking? Of course, it’s a personal choice to smoke or not to. But if you do, you must be careful not to put people around you in hazard by letting them inhale your cigarette smoke. This is called “passive smoking” and could be as dangerous to health as smoking directly.
