Shanghai is one of the largest cities of China, while its origin dates back to the 11th century AD, to the time of Song Dynasty (Danielson, 12). Today, Shanghai is one of the rapidly growing cities of China due to its favorable physical position and socioeconomic development of the city. At the same time, Shanghai is the great attraction for tourists, who want to learn the history of China and its present.
One of the remarkable places of Shanghai is the Normandie, a beautiful eight-storied apartment building designed by Hungarian architect Lazlo Hudec in 1924. The building conveys the architecture of Shanghai of the 1930s and the life of the local population. At the same time, this building reveals the impact of western architecture and culture on Shanghai since the western impact was very significant in Shanghai in the 1920s – 1930s.
Another important place is the former residence of Zhang Leping, a renowned animator and the creator of the Sanmao series, which portrays the second Sino-Japanese War’s younger victims. This is why the main character has only three hairs as the evidence of malnutrition of Chinese people in the time of Sino-Japanese War.
Children Palace is an important territorial marker dedicated fully to children. Thus, Shanghai has preserved its uniqueness and the original style, while old buildings are combined successfully with modern ones.
