Reshaping Change essay
The main goals of this assignment are to discuss changes, to explain the nature of resistance to change and possibilities to overcome it, and to talk about the ways how changes impact on people.
Thinking about the ways how changes impact on people, we can state that changes accompany the person for the whole life. Everyone knows that there is no life without changes. However, only few recognize that they need to be changed under the influence of the head. It is a fact that a head of any organization plans some changes, but only people are able to provide these changes into practice; so, people need to change their behavior and their attitude to situation, while resistance is the first reaction to the change, as people need some time to assess the costs and benefits of change for themselves. In other words, resistance is a conscious action of man (sometimes inaction) aimed at delaying the adoption and implementation of these decisions in the organization. For this reason, new management initiatives often cause controversy among company’s subordinates.
To continue, often resistance to change comes from the fact that people need to abandon old habits and learn to act in new ways. To do this, they need different norms and values. But in the process, they often find that their status and power in the organization are evaluated differently. These changes lead to the age-old conflict between the human desire for permanence and search for a new way of life and behavior (Dawson, 2003). In such a way, for the purpose to overcome resistance to change and to manage the process of change, despite the resistance of staff, managers need to have clear goals of changes which are build in strategy of the company’s development, to imagine implementation stages of change, to “recruit” supporters, to consider special “motivate” actions and to realize that it is important to be strong by starting the process of change.
In conclusion, we have discussed changes in this assignment and proved that people’s resistance to change is not surprising and pathological event because most people are afraid of the revolutionary breaking of traditional way of life, and also have their own ideas about the best ways how to implement a strategy. Finally, changes are extremely difficult and painful processes, while the reasons of resistance to change may have economic, organizational, personal, social, political, etc. character.
