Problems in the area of child welfare Essay
According to contemporary world situation, Ontario has 53 child welfare agencies. Mostly, these organizations are called Children’s Aid Societies and legally responsible to study reports that children might need the protection because of maltreatment or even risk of it by their caregivers. Eventually, the entire province is covered by these agencies. Over the years, activity in the child welfare area in Ontario has been increasing and developing. In addition, the level of investigations of child maltreatment in Ontario has barely risen in three times through the past decade (in 1993 – 45,000, while in 2003 – 130,000).
In light of the current times, child maltreatments are serious problems for the contemporary society. Sexual abuse (3%), emotional abuse (15%), physical abuse (24%), neglect (27%), and domestic violence (32%) – these are main categories of child maltreatments that should be dealt with and fixed. Indeed, in recent times American (including Ontario) system of child welfare is in trouble. Eventually, it can be fixed and improved. In the sector of child welfare in Ontario, must be mentioned that with no funding increases and few CASs it face different challenges in financial area and is in its second year.
In my opinion, the core focus might be on the dealing with the question why less attention is paid to the inequities in society, which let barely 20 percent of children in Ontario live in poverty, while attention is given mostly to the child abuse, which is spread among the walls of people’s nation homes. Undeniably, the primary aim of the entire system of child welfare should be dealing with the child poverty that cause massive suffering, not the child abuse targeting. Indubitably, many of social problems are caused by the severe reality that a majority of children are likely to grow up being without hope people’s opportunity.
Furthermore, social problems in the area of child welfare in Ontario impact on people and to understand how they impact social workers are trained. It is important to investigate social problem of child welfare poverty. Indeed, social service providers should take part in collaborative behaviors to deal with social problems. All the seriousness of the social problem of the child poverty should be completely recognized because it affects the whole nation. Identifying faults among child welfare, the charge against this system is the lack of scientific fundament. The problem is the low quality of social work research. As Lindsey said, programs of family preservation lessen state custody chances that were taken in those families, which have taken part in such program.
In conclusion, social improvement is undeniably possible. Our community and all its inequities and faults should be fixed. No one should stay indifferent. Nevertheless, taking in account all the social problems in the system of child welfare in Ontario, there is still a question whether our society cares about children that need protection as much as it asserts.
