Poverty is one of the major burdens essay
Poverty is one of the major burdens that affect the life of many people in the contemporary society. However, the concept of poverty is so deeply rooted in the contemporary culture that people take poverty for granted. In this regard, the cultural poverty argument justifies the poverty by cultural traditions and norms, which make poverty persistent.
In this regard, the competitive development of the contemporary society, where each individual pursues wealth, justifies the concept of poverty by the natural competition between people in the labor market. In such a situation, the modern culture justifies poverty and views it as a norm. Similarly, other cultures may view poverty as a norm that contributes to the persistent poverty in the society.
At the same time, cultures, where the concept of poverty is underdeveloped, do not view poverty as a norm. In contrast, they treat poverty as something abnormal. As a result, people rely on the mutual support and help to those, who have troubles and cannot find means for living at the moment. However, such societies are under-developed economically and technologically because the growing economic disparity contributes to the penetration of the concept of poverty in the culture.
In such a context, the culture poverty explains that the poor have their own system of values, which is different from that of the rich or the middle class. The poor live in the society and they take their position for granted sharing specific set of values. In such a way, they do not perceive their position as abnormal but the difference in their set of values provokes their marginalization.
Thus, cultural poverty explains poverty by cultural norms and values.
