Mitt Romney, the former governor of the state Massachusetts (from 2003 to 2007), was born on March 12, 1947. He is a well-known American businessman. Mitt Romney was the Republican Party’s nominee for President of the United States in the Presidential elections of 2012. The candidacy of Mitt Romney was officially announced on June 2, 2011 in Stratham, New Hampshire.
It is known that Mitt Romney lost the election of 2012, having 206 electoral college votes to Barack Obama’s 332 electoral votes, and about 48% of the nationwide popular vote to Barack Obama’s 51%. The presidential election program of Mitt Romney had some specific characteristics. One of them was that Mitt Romney wanted abortions to be illegal in the USA. The other point was that Mitt Romney wanted to improve healthcare system through promoting free markets and loyal competition in healthcare. According to the politician, competition could lead to improvement of quality of healthcare products and services. In addition, Mitt Romney wanted to make improvements in the national security. Romney said that “keeping the U.S. in Iraq is the best option for the USA” (Presidential election program of Mitt Romney, 2012). Besides the above mentioned facts, Mitt Romney proposed to get the federal government out of education. In the sphere of the U.S. economy, he proposed to reduce corporate taxes to increase competition in the U.S. market. Mitt Romney was sure that his election proposals to reduce government regulation of business and to revise taxes, federal trade and energy policies would improve business environment and create more than 12 million new jobs in the nearest future.
