Child Labor essay
This paper presents the information on the documentary movie named “The Harvest (La Cosecha)”. It is aimed at interpreting and observing this movie in a proper way.
The Harvest (La Cosecha) is a documentary film that tells us about child labor in America. The children work in the fields 12 hours a day and six months a year in order to feed others. Their rights are violated, and consequently they work illegally. Not without reason, Hale in his article “Children in the Fields, but Not at Play” admits that this movie is “an earnest documentary about child migrant farmworkers in the United States, has a muckraking agenda but a melancholy soul” (par. 1).
It is important to add that the children pick various crops and work very hard without the protection of their labor laws. What is more, they are subject to different intolerable conditions, such as dangerous work, scorching hot sun, pesticides, etc. As a result, the children who depend on agricultural immigrant work limit their opportunities of obtaining a good education and succeeding in school. Furthermore, those kids threaten their health and lives because of the intolerable conditions in which they are.
Taking everything into account, it is possible to conclude that the main aim of this documentary movie is to raise awareness of the intolerable working conditions which a lot of migrant children face in their everyday lives working in the fields of America and to resolve the laws protecting the rights of children. All in all, this documentary tried to help child migrant field workers in protecting their rights and bring parity of working conditions to the farmworkers in the United States.
