IT Project Manager Essay
In the contemporary business environment, information technologies and information systems play an extremely important part because they affect consistently the performance of organizations. In such a context, the development of an IS project needs to be scheduled accurately and to have accurate forecasts concerning the further development of the project. In this respect, the project team should act responsibly and each team member should understand clearly goals of the project and expected outcomes of the project. In actuality, the development of a reliable information system that has the high level of information security is very important in the contemporary business environment and the current project should focus on the elaboration of the effective information system that enhances the information security of the company.
The development and implementation of the project involves the project team consisting of ten managers and one hundred union employees. The timeline of the project is from January 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016. The project will be carried out by the project team and its ultimate goal is the enhancement of the effective information system that provides the company with the high level of information security. At this point, it is important to focus on the development of the work breakdown structure, which helps to implement the project successfully. The work breakdown structure will help to identify the key directions in the development and implementation of the projects and to maintain control over their implementation.
In this regard, the maintenance of the Work Breakdown Structure may be presented briefly in the table 1 as follows:

Therefore, the IT project will involve three traditional goals of cost, schedule, and performance. These three goals are closely intertwined and interdependent on each other. To put it more precisely, the costs of the project are very important because the IT project should match the costs the company is ready to spend on the project. If the IT project becomes too costly for the company, the company may fail to complete the project successfully. On the contrary, if the IT project saves considerable funds, the company may fail to obtain the reliable and effective information system because, if the IT project team saves costs, there is a high risk of the poor development of information system. If the IT project team saves costs, then the team has to refuse from some advanced developments or the IT team spends less time on research and development to save costs. Such way of saving costs is not very effective because the IT team will refuse from important but costly innovations or the team will be limited in the time being spent in terms of the project.
The schedule of the IT project is also very important and is closely intertwined with costs of the project. The high costs of the project may either increase or decrease the timeline of the project. The extensive investments can encourage the IT project team to conduct the extensive research and development or, alternatively, the IT project team can just purchase advanced technologies and solutions and adapt them fast to the needs of the company’s information system. At the same time, if the IT project team fails to match the schedule of the project, then the costs of the project will increase for more time will be needed to complete the project. As a result, the company will need to spend more money on the project and increase costs of the project, if the IT project team fails to meet the schedule of the project.
Finally, the performance is extremely important for the costs and schedule of the project. The effective performance of the project team can save both time and costs that are spent on the project. If the project team is highly productive, it can complete the project faster. Therefore, the project may be completed successfully. At the same time, the effective combination of the costs, schedule and performance is essential for the successful completion of the IT project.
