Reports’ major findings Essay
We can name a few major findings of the Juvenile Victimization and Offending, 1993-2003 report:
Nonfatal violence is widespread among juveniles in 2,5 times more than among the adults.
In the most cases of nonfatal violent crime against younger juveniles (ages 12-14) the offender was juvenile as well.
There is a declining trend for all nonfatal violent crime against all age groups of juveniles.
Older teens were about 3 times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime involving a firearm that younger teens.
Among all groups of juveniles blacks were 5 times likely than whites to be a victim of a homicide.
As for nonfatal violence, older teens had the highest annual rates of rape/sexual assault and aggravated assault, while younger teens had highest rates of simple assault.
Among all groups of juveniles males had higher average annual rates of violent crime victimization than females.
More than 2 in 3 violent crimes against juveniles were made without weapon; the older teens were more likely to be involved in violent crimes with a weapon usage that younger teens.
About a quarter of all violent cases against younger teens were reported to police, while victimizations against older teens were reported more frequently (35% vs. 23%).
School was the most common place were violent crimes against teens were occurred.
Younger teen victims of nonfatal violence were less likely than older teen victims to have been victimized by a stranger and more likely to have been victimized by person whom they knew, but not a relative; older teens were as likely as younger teens to have been victimized by a relative or a parent.
Part 2
Concept of the report
The main concept of the report is the juvenile victimization and offending trends for the period 1993- 2003 analysis.
The analysis is made for different juvenile age groups (victims ages 12-14, victims ages 15-17) and compared to corresponding adult annual rates (victims age 18 or older) as well.
Operational definition
The main requirements to operational definition are: it should be reliable and valid.
In the case of the mentioned above report, the operational definition is reliable and valid.
It was prepared by The Bureau of Justice Statistics of the U.S. Department of Justice. The data used in report were taken from the National Crime Victimization Survey, the

The quality of measurement and research has a deep impact on report’s reliability.
This report is prepared by official institution with the usage of an official survey data gathered for 10 years period; therefore we can state this report is definitely a reliable study.
