Gospel essay
Gospel — it is a Jesus Christ’s biography, in transfer with Greek it means literally “a good message”. It contains descriptions of the birth and Jesus Christ’s life, his death and wonderful revival, and also the sermon, lecture and a parable. According to the New Testament, each of authors of the Gospel did an emphasis on those moments of life and Jesus Christ’s activity, which he considered as the most important. The part of events is mentioned only in one and not mentioned in the other Gospel.
Synoptic Gospels became a source of many plots, quotes and ideas for the European social culture of the next centuries. Christmas of baby Jesus Christ, pleasure Precepts, Transformation, the Last Supper, Revival and Rise are widely known. The main events of the Christ life, mentioned in the Gospel, gradually began to be noted as church holidays by those people, who accepted Christianity.
Jesus birth by Matthew (2.1-23)
King Herod sent the Magicians to find out where the son of God. The wise men followed a star, going ahead, and came to the place of birth of the baby. They rejoiced in this great event, and brought many gifts to the Savior. After receiving a message from the angels of heaven not to return to the King, they decided to go back home through another way.
At night the Lord appeared to Joseph and told to take his wife and son, and to go away as far as possible.
The enraged King Herod ordered to kill all the city’s little babies. Shouts and suffering were everywhere, grief was inconsolable.
After the Herod’s death, Joseph and Maria went to Israel, where the extraordinary Lord’s prophecy came true (New Testament, Mat. 2.1-23).
Appearance of magicians with gold and other gifts, a guiding star – all this shrouded the birth of the Sacred Child. A result of this scene, that baby Jesus was threatened by danger, but we can see how it was preserved by God to make the true Jesus appointment.
Jesus birth by Luke (2.1 – 20)
Shepherds were first who heard the new about Jesus birth. Orthodox Jews despised shepherds. After all, the shepherds could not comply with all the details of establishing the law, it means, that all the petty regulations regarding hand washing, as well as other rules and prohibitions. Their herds demanded too much attention, so Orthodox Jews looked down on them. To them, to the common people of fields, the first God’s message was sent.
When in a family of the Jew was born the son, local musicians gathered near parents house to welcome his birth with music. Little Jesus Christ was born in a shed caravan in Bethlehem and consequently this ceremony could not have a place. But it was so delightful, that thus, instead of terrestrial music, sounded heavenly music and angels sang songs, which the best singers could not sing for Jesus. On this episode Luke finishes the birth description (New Testament, Luk. 2.1-20).
Reading this, we are struck by thought that the God’s Son birth occurred in very poor conditions. It would be possible to expect that in general, he could be born in a palace or the lock. One European monarch often disturbed his court with his secretly leavings a palace to walk incognito among the people. When he asked not to do it, referring to his personal security, he answered that he could not govern people, without knowing their lives. The Christian belief confirms great thought that our God knows our life, because he led this life and refused particular advantages before ordinary people.
About Matthew and Luke, their outlooks, characteristic features and differences
In the scene of the Jesus nativity by Matthew and Luke, we can find out only few similar points, these points are just only about the moment of birth. I mean, that only this circumstance is the same in these two stories. All the other are different: Luke has Angels singing, poor conditions and shepherds, and Matthew has got an evil King, children murders, magicians and escape of Joseph’s family. I suppose these two situations are quite varied, and there is only one thing is common – it is Jesus day of birth.
According to the New Testament, the Gospel from Matthew is one of four parts of the New Testament, which distinctive feature is the most complete description of the Mount Sermon of the Savior, and also the indication of nine Precepts of pleasure which learn people, how to reach spiritual perfection, and a necessary sincere arrangement for this purpose according to pleasure Precepts.
Besides, only in Matthew’s Gospel, the parables of the Savior told, which aren’t stated in other Gospels. That treats: about treasure in the field, about a marriage feast, about talents and some other.
The sacred apostle and gospeler Matthew is one twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He was a publican, or, in other words, the collector of taxes for Rome as in those days Israel was under the Roman Empire’s power. Once, when Jesus passed by him and told to follow him, Matthew left the occupation and the position completely and followed the Savior.
The Gospel by Luke was called by the most delightful book in the world. His writing was a result of hard and careful work. His Greek is graceful and first four famous verses are written by the best Greek in all New Testament. In them Luke argues that his annunciation is written “on careful research”. He had for this purpose great opportunities and reliable sources.
Luke occurred from pagans. From all authors of the New Testament only he did not belong to Jews. He was a great doctor, and can be, that is why people like him. As we know the priest sees in people good, the lawyer – bad and the doctor sees them such what they are. Luke saw people and loved them.
Conclusion
Each of four Gospels was written under a certain gospeler’s point of view and outlook. Gospelers often represented on the church stained-glass windows, usually everyone with the symbol. These symbols, however, change, but we will talk about the most typical and settled.
Matthew’s symbol is the Lion. He was a Jew, and wrote for Jews: he saw a Messiah in Jesus, a Lion “from Jew’s knee” which coming was predicted by all prophets.
Symbol of Luke is Taurus. The Taurus is intended for sacrifice. Luke saw in Jesus’s face the victim, brought for the whole world. In the Gospel from Luke all barriers are overcame, and Jesus becomes available and to Jews, and to sinners. He is the Savior of the World.
Given all the above, we can assume that for these reasons and attitudes, Matthew and Luke wrote the stories in their own unique, not always similar, but really great way.
