Women and Labor Project essay

Dear mother, father and my sister Ann,

How are you? I am writing to you from the United States, my dream country. I know that you are waiting for my letter because you love me and miss me as well as I am. I cannot say that something is wrong with me. Don’t worry. Upon my arrival in the United States, I have been provided a settlement house in New York City. I share my room with two more immigrant girls, Mary and Christy. They are very kind to me. But what is more important for me in this situation is my job. I am working in a factory in New York City. The work is rather heavy, but they pay me every week. I am happy that I have found a regular work. They pay me $8-9 a week, but I have to be in the workshop at 7o’clock in the morning, and only at 8 o’clock at night I come home. I am very tired, but I am happy that I have something to eat. You know, I really miss you, my dear parents and my little sister. However, I am not going to give up. The USA is a country where I will be able to build a new life and to live happily with you. Yes, I want you to come to the United States too. I just need some time to fix myself in New York and to save some money. Then, I will invite you. I’ve got good news. I have been approached to join a union. It means that my human rights will be protected. The union will control our working conditions and salaries. Sorry, but I have to go now. Remember, that I love you so much!
