Treating cancer carriers is always an uneasy task. And informing them of the diagnosis is not an exception. On the other hand, it is usually better to tell the diagnosis to the patient’s family, and it is up to them to decide whether the cancer carrier should be aware of his illness. Anyway, I would check up the tests myself and try to connect Mr. Smith to agree for another appointment stressing that it is very important for him to come.

It goes without saying that no-shows cause a lot of difficulties for each health center, and obviously there is a need to reduce their amount and to prevent patients from failing to show up. Not to make the physician a bankrupt it would be rational to charge the patient before the appointment. But pre-pay system also causes a lot of problems. It may be reasonable not to take a full payment for the appointment, but some percent as a guarantee the patient will come. In case the patient does not come there will be some sum left to compensate the forfeit.

Topic 2 – Creating a Matrix

It goes without saying that primary care practice can essentially benefit from applying information technologies in its work and in scheduling in particular. It would be useful to create an electronic database of patients and link the schedule with that. Besides, it will be much easier to edit the data in an electronic matrix. To create a matrix, a piece of statistical research will be required to estimate the average length of each appointment and to take to account all the possible deviations.
